What can you use the app for?

Foodie is an online community focused entirely on food. Users can sign up with Twitter or Facebook and begin following celebrities, cookbook authors and food bloggers. The application also encourages users to invite their friends to come and share recipes and explore food options on the site. Users can perform three main functions after signing up for an account. They can follow other foodies, share their favorite recipes and add photos of their favorite dishes. The user sets up a profile much like any other social network. The application automatically pulls information from the user’s social networking profile to save set up time. A list of featured topics is available at the top of the page along with access to menus, discussions, chefs, restaurants, photos, recipes and Foodies.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Foodie was created by Glam Media. The website was intended to bring internet users together who share a common love of food. There are many similar websites and networks already available on the web, making it difficult for a site like Foodie to really take off. So far the website has gone mostly unnoticed with very few mentions on third party sites. Despite its relatively underground popularity, Foodie still manages to offer an active community and interesting place to talk about food.

What are the differences to other apps?

Foodie is one part recipe database and two parts social network. The website isn’t just another recipe database like many other websites. Instead Foodie strives to give users an engaging experience by providing a way to follow food celebrities, cookbook authors, bloggers and fellow food lovers. Users can connect with others, share recipes and discover new tasty dishes. The site’s social element adds more ways for a user to get involved with the online community.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Foodie has a very modern, stylish appearance to it that works very well for its intended purpose. Users are greeted by soft tones accented by a deep orange logo. The site uses sleek fonts that give it a little extra kick without overdoing it. Each page and feature is well-organized so novice users have no trouble navigating and becoming active members of the site’s growing network.

How does the registration process work?

New users can join the Foodie community by clicking the orange circular “Get Started” button along the right side of the homepage. The following page includes two blue buttons, one for Twitter and the other for Facebook. The user must login to their preferred social networking account and give Foodie access to their profile to complete registration. No alternative login option is offered at this time.

What does it cost to use the application?

Foodie is available to all users for free. There are no fees required and the user doesn’t have to commit to any purchases. This is really as it should be considering the features offered by the site. Foodie relies heavily on its user community to make its web space an active and engaging place. Without the user community there would be less to do and fewer reasons to return.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Foodie is ideal for anyone who adores delicious flavors. The website caters to users who take food to another level. While casual food lovers can discover new recipes and find ways to enjoy food, seasoned food connoisseurs can celebrate their passion for all things edible. The website is slowly growing and currently supports an active community. Users can follow food celebrities, fellow food lovers and cookbook authors while learning about new recipes.
